What Recent Residents are Saying

Quote Sara - SF - Gray
The rotational program has let me work closely with most of the teams here at WJW. It's rare to get a feel for every aspect of wealth management so early in your career, and it's important to discover what you genuinely enjoy and to identify strengths and weaknesses. Seeing what made me happiest and what gave me less satisfaction has given me real clarity about the direction I want to grow in.

During my onboarding rotation, I loved meeting clients and prospective clients face to face. It helped me build an emotional connection with the people I serve behind the scenes. With each person, I would think, "This is who I'm helping change their life for the better." I want to keep doing work that helps people plan for their futures and gives them experiences they never thought they'd have.
Sara F. | Client Operations Resident
Quote Karlee - KD - Gray
Since joining the WJW Residency Program, my biggest area of growth has been confidence. Early on, I was still finding my footing, but I now feel empowered to share my ideas in hopes of improving processes and bringing real value to the team. That growth has been strengthened by the people around me. Starting my career alongside like-minded, hard-working, and kind peers has created a community where everyone supports one another.

Because of these experiences, I encourage anyone considering the program to apply. The growth and development I've gained through the Residency Program will pay dividends well into the future, both personally and professionally.
Karlee D. | Investment Operations Resident
Quote Jonathan - JP - Gray

Through the rotational program, I have been able to observe the attention to detail required across all departments to meet the operational needs of WJW. I have worked closely with the Tax, Wealth Management, Investments, and Marketing teams to meet goals and complete projects. Through the education incentive program, I have identified that I would like to become a CFP® professional and WJW is helping me actualize that goal.

Most of my professional growth here has come from collaborating with so many individuals to complete projects and incorporate ideas from team members across all sides of the business. Change happens here, and input is taken from team members at every level. Having other driven young professionals in the program with me has been motivating and inspiring, as many of us are running towards similar career and life goals.

Quote Ty - TH - Gray (1)
The Residency Program has given me a much better understanding of the wealth management industry and how different teams come together to serve clients. My time in Operations has opened my eyes to the immense amount of work and attention to detail that goes on behind the scenes.

The program has allowed me to build relationships with others early in their careers while gaining a clearer sense of where I want to grow professionally. I would highly recommend the program to anyone interested in gaining meaningful exposure to the different areas of wealth management.
Ty H. | Client Operations Resident
Quote Luke - LL - Gray

Being able to rotate through different departments has shown me how each team operates on its own and how they work together to serve clients. Each rotation builds on the last, so I bring what I learned on one team into the next.

My time in Investment Operations changed how I think about my career. Seeing the back-office work that keeps everything running gave me a clear view of how it differs from front-office work and why both matter. Along the way, I've become a clearer, more concise communicator and built relationships across departments, which has given me a better sense of where I want to grow. To anyone considering the Residency Program: plenty of resources can help you succeed, and everyone here is willing to help you grow.

Luke L. | Investment Operations Resident
Quote Ashlyn- AC - Gray (1)

Starting on the Tax Operations team pushed me outside of my comfort zone and challenged me to grow in ways that have prepared me to become a well-versed advisor. Without this program and the support of exceptional managers and coworkers, I would not have had the opportunity to learn and gain confidence in areas of the business that once felt intimidating.

The experiences and lessons I have gained will not only help me succeed in future roles at WJW but will also continue to shape me into a more capable and confident professional.

Ashlyn C. | Tax Operations Resident
Quote Cody - CB - Gray

The onboarding rotations gave me the opportunity to meet with prospective clients and build my skills, especially in being flexible to change on the fly. Those conversations helped me get more comfortable asking questions, listening closely, and adapting as new topics came up.

I started to see how preparation and flexibility go hand in hand, especially when each client brings a different set of needs and priorities to the table. With each meeting, I gained more confidence in my ability to contribute to the conversation and put what I was learning into practice.

Frequently Asked Questions

We assign rotations based on your professional development goals, preferences, and the firm’s business needs. We send preference surveys twice a year, in October and March, so you can share your interests and update your goals as you gain experience.

While your input is an important part of the process, preferred placements are not guaranteed.

The Residency Program is a full-time position with structured rotations across different areas of the firm. As a resident, you’ll contribute to meaningful work while developing the technical skills, professional confidence, and broader business knowledge needed for a long-term career in wealth management.

That’s part of the value of the Residency Program! Rotations are designed to help you discover your strengths, explore your interests, and identify where you can make the greatest impact. We encourage you to be open about what you’re learning and how your career interests evolve throughout the program.

Yes! As a full-time team member, you’re eligible for the same benefits offered to other full-time employees at Willis Johnson Wealth, including continuing education benefits to support your professional growth.

All benefits are subject to standard eligibility requirements and enrollment guidelines.

Each rotation brings new responsibilities, teams, and expectations. You’ll be challenged to learn quickly, manage competing priorities, and contribute meaningful work while continuing to develop your skills. Being adaptable, asking questions, seeking feedback, and taking ownership of your growth will help you succeed.

Around month 18, we’ll begin working with you to identify your long-term career track based on your interests, strengths, professional development, and the firm’s business needs. This gives you time to prepare for your next role before graduating from the Residency Program at the end of two years.

Our goal is to prepare every resident for a long-term career at Willis Johnson Wealth. While successful completion of the program does not guarantee a permanent placement, we work closely with you to identify career opportunities that align with your strengths, interests, performance, and the firm’s business needs.
